Deals Gap, NC (September 15, 2010) - The Women’s Sportbike Rally V presented by Draggin’ Jeans September 10-12, 2010 returned to both Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort and Fontana Village Resort. Although the weather was great Friday and Sunday, Mother Nature drowned a great deal of those who decided to ride on Saturday. As a result of the hard work and generous support by sponsors and participants we raised another $1300 which will be donated to the Tiffany Weirbach “Sportbikegirl” Melanoma Foundation.

The weekend kicked off with the annual group bike photo and the ladies did not disappoint this year with nearly 40 women and their rides making it to the photo.

During the Sportbike Night presented by Killboy.com at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, we generated an great photo meant to display a roman numeral five (we hope you can see it!) for five amazing years of the Rally.

Sportbike Night presented by Killboy.com at the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort immediately followed the photo with plenty of festivities including a delicious taco dinner hosted by the awesome ladies of the Dragon’s Den Grill, the annual toss which is always a good time and 50cc racing entertainment that never fails to disappoint. Unfortunately due to time constraints we failed at getting the Sportbike Challenge rolling, but we won't miss that next year.

Ladies love t-shirts!

Buelah Turner from Ontario, Canada was the first to represent the women contingent during the 50cc racing action. Even though she had a mild front end tuck (caught by our ace photog Allison), she got back up and kept on racing making us proud. This mishap was thankfully the only one of the weekend which earned her the Hard Luck Award presented at the Luau Saturday evening.

A few of the awesome shirts won in the toss! :)

Saturday morning threw us the first curve ball in the five years of the event by greeting us with a down pour all over the Smokies. Riding was for the hard core (or crazy depending on how you look at it) so needless to say the annual group photo by the historic Deals Gap sign was represented by those braving the elements (or who were already camped out at the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort). The photo obviously does not lie and although there were a few who made their way through the rain to find the sun, most were making the best of it hanging out instead of riding. Considering we have been lucky with weather for nearly five years, we were pretty happy everyone was still upbeat about the weekend demonstrating how awesome the women who attend this rally really are.

The picture does not lie, that's some heavy rain right there!

After a day full of riding...er, we mean, hanging out indoors for the bulk of us, the evening brought the Sportbikegirl Luau presented by PJ’s Parts indoors (originally scheduled around the pool) at Fontana Village Resort. This year we ditched the food and created a dessert party with something for everyone which turned out to be a delicious hit. The sweetness didn't end with the food as all participants went home with something from the MANY sponsors who lined up their support.

Celebrating five years of the Rally (and this cake was a...maz...ing...!)

Cute (and yummy) cupcakes!!!

The rockstar, sponsorship getter, Dawn Chappell puts the final touches on just about a third of the door prizes given away. See our photo gallery for more!

Amy, Suzy and Erin have been coming to the rally for years and continue to go home with cool stuff!

Buelah Turner receives her Hard Luck Award at the Luau!

Kim Russell of Burnsville, Minnesota rode her Ducati M620 over 1,000 miles to attend the rally for the first time. To date, she has ridden the farthest to attend the rally easily earning the Super Rider award. Did we mention she did it on a Ducati?!? (It was worth mentioning twice.) Only by a small margin did she beat Karen Eberhardt, also from Minnesota who rode her Yamaha R6. Wow, what amazing ladies!

Since we missed the entire group first thing that morning as a result of rain, we pulled them altogether for one final photo! Thanks ladies!

The Breakfast Meet on Sunday morning put a cap on the weekend allowing everyone to say their “Goodbyes” and “See you next years.” It was the perfect ending to another memory generating weekend for riders.

PLEASE check out our awesome sponsors from this years rally...without them, we would not be able to donate like we do each year! Thank you!

A word from co-founder and Rally Director, Stephani McIntyre:

I need to give a special THANK YOU to Rally Coordinator Dawn Chappell. She recognized that my life has changed this year in a great way, but unfortunately it kept me from organizing and without her stepping up to take the lead on many things, most importantly the sponsorship and registration (along with her supportive David) this rally would not have happened. Even though she, along with many others, honored me during the Luau this year, it is I who am honored by all of you. You who make this small and intimate rally your annual vacation each year. Even though I am passing the torch to others (more of that to come) I know the love I have for this event, as well as the tradition and integrity that makes the rally special to me, will continue (and I will do everything I can to continue to be along for the ride as well).

My deepest thanks to all of you for being a part of an idea that became a reality and has helped to form friendships and a sportbikegirl bond that spans across the nation. I love you all!

Geez...I'm tearing up as I write this...there David, you happy? :)
